Online Microteaching

I really enjoyed the experience of online teaching however, there were aspects that created complexities. The access to different online platforms such as educational interactive websites and other digital resources, helped me as teacher in keeping the students engaged in the lesson and actively learning the content. I believe that the online platform allowed for my learners to feel safe in the learning environment and comfortable in communicating through having the choice of either speaking on their device or typing and answer. In contrast, I did not enjoy that I could not communicate with the students in the same way as I could in a face- to- face lesson. I was not able to see if my students were listening or understanding through their body language. I also found it challenging, that some students internet connection was unstable in which either the students could not participate or that it would interrupt the lesson and other students.

During my online teaching experience, I learnt how to use and navigate different online platforms. I learnt to create and teach content digitally in a fun and interactive way such as quizzes, slides, and interactive activities. Furthermore, I developed different communication styles to suit teaching different types of content.

There are a few things I would do differently when teaching an online lesson. I would encourage students' who are comfortable in doing so, to enable their camera in order for me to see the students' facial, expressions, body language, and engagement. I would have also taken more time and done more examples when teaching complex concepts to ensure that all the students' have an understanding. I would ensure that all students' are able to participate in certain interactive activities as some may not have devices to do so.

I believe I chose appropriate tools to teach my online lesson as they were fun and interactive. I found that both the tools that I made use of, were helpful in teaching and consolidating the content taught. Too, the use of tools I made use of, allowed for all students' to participate. I used an interactive clock which I was able to move the clock hands accordingly to the content of time being taught and was able to involve and engage with students' by asking them specific examples accordingly. The use of a Kahoot! Quiz allowed students' to practice and internalize the content individually in a fun and engaging way.

I believe that my online teaching experience has developed me for teaching in a school by allowing me to adapt and implement different ways of teaching, whether it be my teaching style, the resources I use, or my classroom management.
